While I was wondering around the Rhode Island Convention Center in a daze this past weekend, the 2012 Altweekly Awards were announced... and apparently I won first place this year. Totes awse!

I made the mistake of clicking over to the listing of Alt Weekly Awards and spent a *long* time reading articles from the Miami New Times, Cleveland Scene and many others. It was almost enough to bring a tear to the eye of this former newscreature to see that good print journalism lives – just not in the corporate dailies, but in an esoteric collection of weeklies scattered in communities around the nation. Small, scrappy newspapers that do not have editors who say “Write it for a 10th grade level, that’s the average reader” and “The publisher wants to see something about this new business” and “Aw, nobody’s interested in THAT!”
